1. Overview

ScriptWave is a browser extension that helps YouTube creators generate AI-powered scripts from any YouTube video. This Privacy Policy explains how ScriptWave handles your data when you use the extension on Microsoft Edge or any Chromium-based browser.

We are committed to protecting your privacy. ScriptWave is designed to collect the minimum data necessary to function, and we do not sell, share, or monetise your personal information.

 

2. Data We Collect

2a. Data Stored Locally on Your Device

The following information is stored only in your browser's local storage and never transmitted to our servers:

•        Your Groq API key (used to access the AI model)

•        Your selected AI model preference

•        Your daily script usage count (to enforce free tier limits)

•        Your Pro plan activation status (if you have purchased a license)

•        Your teleprompter settings (font size, scroll speed, colours)

 

2b. Data Processed Temporarily (Not Stored)

When you use ScriptWave to generate a script, the following data is processed but never stored on our servers:

•        The transcript of the YouTube video you are viewing (extracted from YouTube's public caption API)

•        The AI-generated script output

This data is sent directly from your browser to the Groq API and is subject to Groq's own privacy policy (console.groq.com). ScriptWave does not store, log, or retain transcript or script content.

 

2c. Payment Verification Data

If you purchase a Pro license via PayPal or cryptocurrency, the following data may be processed through our secure backend (hosted on Cloudflare Workers):

•        Your email address (used to associate the license with your account)

•        Your PayPal Order ID or cryptocurrency transaction hash (used to verify payment)

This data is used solely to verify and activate your Pro license. We do not store payment card details. PayPal transactions are governed by PayPal's Privacy Policy.

 

3. Data We Do NOT Collect

ScriptWave does not collect, store, or transmit any of the following:

•        Your name, address, or demographic information

•        Your browsing history or activity outside of YouTube watch pages

•        Your YouTube account credentials or login information

•        Cookies or tracking pixels

•        Device identifiers or IP addresses

•        Any analytics or telemetry data

 

4. Third-Party Services

ScriptWave interacts with the following third-party services:

 

Groq API

ScriptWave uses the Groq API to generate AI scripts. When you request a script, your YouTube video's transcript is sent to Groq's servers. Groq's use of this data is governed by their Privacy Policy at console.groq.com. We recommend reviewing their terms before use.

 

YouTube / Google

ScriptWave reads publicly available caption data from YouTube videos using YouTube's public timedtext API. We do not access your YouTube account, watch history, or private data. Use of YouTube is governed by Google's Privacy Policy.

 

PayPal

If you pay via PayPal, your payment is processed directly by PayPal. ScriptWave only receives confirmation of a successful payment and your email address. PayPal's Privacy Policy applies to all transactions.

 

Cloudflare Workers

Our license verification backend runs on Cloudflare Workers. Cloudflare may process request metadata (such as IP addresses) in accordance with Cloudflare's Privacy Policy. We do not log or store IP addresses on our end.

 

5. Browser Permissions Explained

ScriptWave requests the following browser permissions and uses them only as described:

 

•        activeTab — Allows ScriptWave to interact with the YouTube tab you are currently viewing. Used only to display the ScriptWave panel and extract the video transcript.

•        storage — Allows ScriptWave to save your settings and API key locally in your browser. Data never leaves your device.

•        scripting — Allows ScriptWave to inject the script panel into YouTube pages.

•        tabs — Used to open the ScriptWave Studio page in a new tab when you launch the teleprompter or waveform visualiser.

•        tabCapture — Used only when you choose to record a video export from the teleprompter. No recording occurs without your explicit action.

•        https://www.youtube.com/* — Required to read YouTube page content and access the public captions API.

•        https://api.groq.com/* — Required to send transcript data to Groq for AI script generation.

 

6. Data Retention

Local browser storage data (API key, settings, usage count) is retained until you uninstall the extension or manually clear it from browser storage.

License verification records (email + payment hash) are retained for up to 2 years to allow license recovery and prevent fraudulent reuse of payment IDs. You may request deletion at any time by contacting us.

ScriptWave does not retain transcript or script content — these are processed in real time and discarded.

 

7. Children's Privacy

ScriptWave is not directed at children under the age of 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has provided personal information through our extension, please contact us and we will take steps to delete such information promptly.

 

8. Your Rights

Depending on your location, you may have the following rights regarding your data:

•        Right to access — You may request a copy of any personal data we hold about you.

•        Right to deletion — You may request that we delete your license record and associated email address.

•        Right to correction — You may request that we correct inaccurate data.

•        Right to object — You may object to processing of your data for license verification purposes.

9. Security

We take reasonable technical measures to protect your data. License verification is performed over HTTPS via Cloudflare Workers. Your API key is stored locally in browser storage and is never transmitted to ScriptWave's servers.

However, no system is 100% secure. We encourage you to use a Groq API key with appropriate rate limits and to rotate it periodically.

 

10. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we do, we will update the Effective Date at the top of this document and publish the updated policy. Continued use of ScriptWave after changes are published constitutes your acceptance of the updated policy.
